The pointe vanity set is inspired by the metal disk dresses from Paco Rabanne’s 12‭ ‬Unwearable Dresses collection‭. ‬To me this dress represents a sort of feminine armor‭, ‬and is a nod to how fashion has historically influenced women’s tastes‭. ‬Through my focus on the vanity‭, ‬I am taking an already gendered piece of furniture and attempting to infuse it with the power of Rabanne’s dresses‭, ‬in which the wearer feels the power of these small discs simultaneously revealing and shielding‭. ‬Its provocative and‭ ‬was extremely unexpected for the 1960s‭. ‬

This set is meant to be a vanity‭, ‬where only the work of self-care and reflection is meant to occur‭. ‬The mirrored‭, ‬stainless surface acts as a sterile shell‭, ‬enveloping a softer‭, ‬protected interior‭. ‬
