Pointe Vanity
The pointe vanity set is inspired by the metal disk dresses from Paco Rabanne’s 12 Unwearable Dresses collection. To me this dress represents a sort of feminine armor, and is a nod to how fashion has historically influenced women’s tastes. Through my focus on the vanity, I am taking an already gendered piece of furniture and attempting to infuse it with the power of Rabanne’s dresses, in which the wearer feels the power of these small discs simultaneously revealing and shielding. Its provocative and was extremely unexpected for the 1960s.
This set is meant to be a vanity, where only the work of self-care and reflection is meant to occur. The mirrored, stainless surface acts as a sterile shell, enveloping a softer, protected interior.
