Décolletage Pendants
These lighting pieces were developed through a collaboration between our class and the Providence restaurant New Rivers. Drawing from the city’s history of costume jewelry, the work combines chain elements with more organic, expanding forms. The shades are made from expanded sheet metal that has been opened outward, creating a sense of tension between structure and ornament, allowing the chain to read less as support and more as adornment.
A mirrored V-shape, used in both the ceiling mounts and the shades, references the form of belt buckles and the way a necklace rests along the collarbone. Installed as a hanging system, the arrangement considers how symmetry and spatial configuration, whether linear or circular, can further emphasize the relationship between the elements and reinforce the work’s connection to the body.
